5 Sites must visit when you are bored

Well, you are bored to death? Actually it's the problem of 6 billion people and may be also animals around the world! After work, it's always time for fun. But where to find it? If you are not on the beach, nightclub, may be I don't know really where.. but in home! If there isn't an Internet connection, then it's time to play classic games that are more boring... But if you can find a little stream of data you can have fun with this small screen.

  1. Digg
Haha, how do I dare to say it! Digg, yes that one is much more boring than a disconnect computer can be. Well, but don't look to the main page, try hitting the Odd Stuff one, yes here there's many odd stuff about crazy people from the crzay world.

  2. Cracked
This Digg sub-Site. Simply, because most of its articles are made popular. On Cracked you can find funny stuff, but sometimes mixed scientific-funny which makes you read it for a long time.

  3. E-buddy
Why not connect to your hotmail, yahoo, aim, Gtalk and talk with friends? Ok, Ebuddy will connect you to them all, so if no one is connected here, there's always another one there and keep chating with your mates. If you really got bored of them all or just didn't find whom to talk with, jump to the next website.

  4. Break
I always prefer to use Break instead of Youtube or Meta Cafe, that one have a special look for me. Register an account and don't let the fun go out!

  5. Stumble Upon
This is perhaps the never ending dramatic website. With a stupid tool bar on your FireFox, just click and the websites will blows one after the other.
Keep stumbling until you got bored
And then mate, did you notice that you have at least 5 hours surfing the Interent, watching, talking and made more than 1,000 click over your mouse? Go have some fresh air out and meet some friends.

Blogger Hack : Integrate Google Adsense for Search

Yesterday I was fetching some data about this blog analytic, on Google analytics.
I was shocked by the number of searches, this blog have had. Much more than 5,000 queries my visitors have submit. (If we compare it to my search activity, that's more than I had search in 1 year!!!, my history shows 4,696 in 2008).
Idea?! Integrate Google Adsense for search and increase my earnings.

  1. Some analytic
There was much more than 5,000 search query since this blog had started. That mean, as this blog started 3 months ago, an average of 50 query a day is estimated. How much you search!! That's really strange :p

  2. Integration on Blogger
If you use Google Adsense code, then you should see an ugly box, with an ugly button also (Ok, that Google style)!!
No you should conserve your actual template, like I have done, here's how to do it.

    • Get the Adsense code
That's easy, go to your Adsense account, Setup a new search engine, and copy the code in note pad. Because the Adsense text box is not really enjoyable when editing and will sucks!!!
    • Now, here's what you have to extract from it.
      The <form blabla > tag
      The hidden inputs
      <input type="hidden" name="cx" value="partner-pub-4333671749651538:7ojekfjjf2h" />
      <input type="hidden" name="ie" value="ISO-8859-1" />
      and that's all
    • Integration is easy but be careful and backup your template!
First of all, search for the search box in your template. (If you template don't have a customized search, then it really sucks you change it).
After you find it, replace the <form blabla> tag, with the Adsense one.
Add inside the <form blabla> your two hidden inputs.
Finally, change the name of your search button to 'sa'.
    • And your search engine works as well
Something is difficult, let me know, just drop a comment.

Flickr Photo Stream Widget For Blogger

I have many days (say weeks) that I wrote an article on "How to Create Blogger Hacks" to help new developers creating widgets for Blogger. Since I published only one widget. So, now I thought it's the time for a new widget. It's Flickr Photo Stream!

  • What's the Flickr Photo Stream Widget

It displays a customizable number of photos in your side bar from Flickr site. The photos displayed, are based on Tags you define for your widget.
  • How to embed?

It's quite easy, I already prepared all for you!
    1. First of all, fill you widget title, you can leave it empty if you don't want a title.
    2. Then type a flickr tag, for example 'cars'. This will show cars photos.
    3. You can also customize the number of photos to show. 3 is the default number.
    4. After that, press the customize button to save the configuration and enable the "add to blog" button
    5. Finally press "Add to blog". This will open a new page, select the blog in which you want to add the widget, and press "Add Widget" button.
    6. You are done, check your blog.

Here's the application, fill the needed form and submit it.
If you encounter any problem, then leave a comment describing it.

  • Who uses this widget?

If you are using this widget, post a comment with your blog URL, you'll get listed here as soon as I saw your comment :)

  • Copyright

This widget was created and code by Omar Abid. Feel free to use it in your blog, but we highly insist that you leave the copyright link on the bottom of the photos stream.

Ramadan Karim 2008

That's the second day in Ramadan 2008, I had already wrote about Ramadan in my thoughts blog, but I just wanted to add more information and statics about this month and the Arabic world. As well as other things, Muslims may be interested on, like fasting timings and food recipes... Brief, it's all related.

  • What's Ramadan
Yet, if you are not Muslim, you may ask 'What's Ramadan'. Simply, it's our Fasting month. Other information and more details, you can find them on this Ramadan Wiki Page.

  • Ramadan Timings
If you are searching for Dawn and Sunset timings, I found a great website, that have a tool for that. You can use the tool, to know time table timing.

  • Ramadan in the Arabic World
I use Google Insights to get some statics about it.
For example the trends of search for the word "Ramadan" during the 4 last years.

This show that searches break out during the month of Ramadan to attend a very high number. When Ramadan begins, the chart take a strong rise for the first 10 days, then scroll down quickly.
    Who's searching for Ramadan.
Google is cool, it let's us know, each country searches most for Ramadan. Let's see together.

Wow great we are (Tunisia) in the third position, good we should keep on!
Finally "Ramadan Karim!"

August Adsense earnings

Yet we are on September, Google Adsense sent me the check of the last month with more than $200. August earnings that beyond $200 are awaiting the end of September to be delivered.
Cool, this Adsense is making some money, here's my little bulletin of Spring Of Life and other running websites.

Here's my earning proof directly from Google Adsense, (for the Widget bucks, I started it few days later and made only $$0.65 beehh)

Then Spring Of Life, would accumulate exactly $60.52 Vs $25.46 in July Vs $8.66 in June; then in total I made from Adsense $94.64 only?! Bas, this blog started 3 months ago and I didn't worked quite hard on it, another point I used only Google Adsense, If I sold ads slot or sponsored reviews, I would eeven make much more than that.

Yah, I forget $1.9 from Co.cc for referring 19 users. Yet, they don't pay good (only $0.1 for a sign up!) So I shall look for other good referral programs.

And then this blog made about $100 after 3 months of running it and posting much more than 100 article on different categories. Not enough?
Yes because I don't sell ads, uses other advertising networks, many referrals and the most important I don't use sponsored reviews (and won't use). I want to keep up my blog clean from spam and advertising posts and I think few constant money is better than huge short period one.

And you how was august with you?
For Muslims : Ramadan Karim
